Best option I found for runners knee before tape
I had used a number of knee braces for my runners knee before this one, but this one made the biggest difference. I ordered this specific one after reading a study on treating runners knee. It said the wrap around knee brace tested was the only ones that really made a significant difference, so I looked around for the knee brace like the one pictured in the study. This was the closest I could find, and it may well have been the same one used, but my experience using it compared too other braces reflected the study. Relief is immediate, and I was able to start exercising again and up the weight on my physical therapy without feeling pain... After that recovery came pretty easily. So it's a great brace but there are some negatives. The straps are a bit cumbersome and bulky, so you just have to get used to that. The straps also require you to adjust them a few times a day, especially before, after, and sometimes during exercise. The straps also get stretched out eventually so you have to get a new one. You will sweat under this as well, but that's every brace in my experience.
Eventually I switched to taping with kinesiology tape every 2-3 days and that was even better than this brace, but it's more expensive over time (to me, worth it). Also if you don't shave your legs, I think taping would be really awful because of how much adhesive residue gets stuck on your skin. So taping isn't for everyone, and if its not for you, get this brace. So far so good.
Have had the braces for a few days. Choose these braces because of a recommendation from my ATC.
PROS: When positioned correctly, they provide enough support to my patellas that I am able to do my rehab without pain. These braces do not restrict range of motion at all, which might be their best feature. Very adjustable.
CONS: I find I have to adjust the braces frequently.
If I did it over again, I might order the next size up for the extra strap length.
